a multidisciplinary documentary artist and writer

"Hello, I'm Mari. I'm a welsh multidisciplinary documentary artist, based in Nantlle in North Wales. I spent over six years living and working on the small remote island of Ynys Enlli, during which time my practice evolved beyond the medium of film and my connection to the natural world deepened ten fold.
We are living in unprecedented times of change and destruction, I wish to document natures complex beauty and create work that may challenge perceptions and inspire connection. "

Bought up in Dyffryn Nantlle in North West Wales, Mari Huws Jones graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Master in Documentary Film Directing in 2015. With much of her personal projects focused on environmental issues, her work took her from Japan to Indonesia, the Arctic, South Korea and across Wales. In 2019, she stepped away from her career to become one of the Wardens of Ynys Enlli. On Enlli, she built a life with her partner Emyr, dedicating their energy and time towards taking care of the islands built, cultural and natural heritage. Today, she has returned to her roots, raising her young family back in the valley she grew up.
She works through film, words, print, 35mm film and found and foraged natural objects.
